Message from Rob Mitchell, Chief Executive, Charnwood Borough Council - Flooding
Dear Town and Parish Councils
Thanks for the support you have been giving communities today which have been impacted by flooding.
We are continuing to work with other agencies through the Resilience Forum to support affected areas and that will continue in the coming days.
Our open spaces contractor (idverde) has been out checking Council waterways are clear and dropping off sandbags to vulnerable people.
We have our waste contractor on standby to clean streets and roads impacted by flooding. This will take time to assess and implement alongside the demands of the day-to-day operations. We will consider additional waste collections for flood damaged homes, but we will assess the need and there are some complicating factors such as types of waste (and associated regulations) and resources (vehicle availability).
We also hope to have officers in impacted areas in the coming days to gather information and signpost people to support and help.
As you know, multiple agencies are responsible for the prevention and response to flooding incidents with the Environment Agency being the key one. We are keen to work with you to support and represent our local communities.
We will continue to use our website, social media channels and email alerts to provide communities with information about flooding. Any messages you can share are greatly appreciated.
If you have information you wish to share about flooding in your areas, please let us know by emailingcommunications@charnwood.gov.uk
